Changing to the Wai Diet

There are two ways to get from another diet to the Wai Diet:

  1. Cold turkey. After a probably intense initial period of adjusting (mentally and physically), the only tweaking left is within the diet itself.
  2. Gradually. Over a longer period several changes in the diet are made until the 100% Wai Diet is achieved. Adjusting is less abrupt, but the last step might prove difficult.

Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages.

Expected issues
How difficult adjusting will be also depends on which diet one starts out from. Some issues which can be encountered are:

- Not eaten enough? On a non-raw diet, the stomach is used to react on physical pressure for sending the "enough" signal. It takes some time to be able to differentiate between a 'lack' of stomach content and the actual need for energy. Eventually the body will revert to its natural method, by reacting on the amount of nutrients consumed. This means that in the beginning one may feel unsatisfied, as the stomach never really gets filled up. In time the 'craving' for such a 'fix' will be replaced with the peace and drive that comes with having constant blood-energy levels.

- Getting used to raw eggs/fish. In our 'sterile' society, bodies are not used to deal with environmental bacteria anymore. Therefore we have to train the body. Start with a little amount, and increase it.

- Body changes. In the beginning the body will undergo changes. These changes might have the effect of temporary acne.

- Weight loss. Most people have too much fat, and retain too much water, which will be remedied by the diet. This means loss of weight. If not enough energy is consumed, the loss could be higher than needed, but eventually weight will settle on what is ideal for the body.

- Diarrhea. If the intestines are in a bad shape or sedated due to the previous diet, during their recovery it might be possible that motions will be temporarily out of whack.

- Bathroom frequency. After a while on the diet, motion frequency might decrease. If the stool itself is normal (probably more liquid due to less fiber), then this is nothing to worry about, it is not constipation. It is just a sign that there is less junk to dispose of.

- Teeth/gum problems. The teeth and enamel remineralisation process might be in less than optimal condition. They need some time to get to that state. In the meantime the teeth and gums have to endure the acids from fruits, especially with juices, and from bacteria in the mouth. Do not brush more than twice a day, use a soft brush, do not use toothpaste, brush gently but meticulously. Rinsing with water after eating/drinking something might help.

- Cravings. If the body is physically addicted to addictive substances, for instance in dairy products or cooked foods, it needs to kick the habit. In case of the cold turkey method, one just has to endure it. In case of the gradual method, one could start by limiting the ingesting of addictive food to around dinnertime. After a while change the choice of addictive food to things which contain little protein or protein containing additives. Also gradually limit the use of herbs and spices.

- Motivation. Because this diet is very different from the common diets in our society, dealing with social occasions and peer pressure might take some effort. Talking to other people on the Wai Diet could help, for instance on our forum: [WaiTalk]. If for any reason following the Wai Diet becomes, or is (thought of as) impossible, one could opt for a less optimal diet. [more]

Positive changes
When the body starts to adjust to the new diet, positive changes will occur. Some of these might be:
- more energy
- easier digestion
- increased alertness
- faster blood clotting/wound healing
- stronger teeth/nails
- weight loss
- feeling of improved general health

Although the relative health improves, it is thought that only an optimal state within the current situation can be achieved. The body has remarkable regenerative capabilities, but only up to the maximum possible.
