Based on what? On its pharmaceutical properties, or its nutritional properties? If it is claimed to be a nutrient, then what are the deficiency symptoms? How much do you need daily to avoid deficiency? Thats is key regarding nutrients. In my opinion, there is no distinction between pharmaceutical a...

OK, let me put it this way, we're kind of stuck in a circle :) When substances are labeled as toxic, it usually means in concentrations easily obtained. But a very tiny amount of cyanide is not toxic. Neither is carbonmonoxide. But in higher, still relatively small amounts, it's toxic. But you did c...

We're not going to convince each other here... As a final remark, let me just say that I think you're way off when it comes to toxins. I've also discussed it with a Drs (don't know the English equivalent of that title) in biology, and he stated very firmly and decisively that everything is toxic is ...

Let me summarize by saying that I think you have too rigid a concept of what is a nutrient and what is not. The world doesn't deal in such absolutes. Your whole metabolism is used to filter out the useful substances from your food, and dump the rest. You can't say that everything you eat is purely n...

Because our western diet is devoid of a lot of things our ancestors ate. It is only logical to conclude that because we don't eat a lot of those things anymore, we're suffering from food deficiencies. Is it so difficult to imagine that those plants contain substances that have not been identified by...

Is that so strange :)? We can't possibly claim we've identified all vitamins and such.

We could go on and on with this discussion, but let me emphasize again, I don't dislike bitter tastes . I like the taste of bitter almonds and apricot seeds. So saying " we don't like bitter tastes" is completely invalid. A colleague of mine, who is not into alternative foods in the slightest, also ...

I hardly ever ate chips, so I don't really have an opinion about them. I only know that in theory, they're a lot better than those with all kinds of additives, but I have never really experienced conscience side effects from additives, except maybe acne, but that has a much broader cause. Too bad it...

Thanks for the information. But about toxins tasting bitter; I hope you don't mean that that would mean that everything bitter is toxic. We have a saying: "Bitter in de mond, maakt het hart gezond" (bitter in the mouth, makes your heart healthy; excuse the lousy translation). Just yesterday, my boss...

I've been able to observe my sleeping habits for a while now, and I can't discern any difference. It's easily 10 hours every day. But, I like sleeping, so I don't really experience it as a problem :)

It also depends on the kind of potato chips, I guess...lots of the popular kinds contain additives, which might provoke acne. That's no problem. Here, in The Netherlands, the C1000 sells organic chips, with flavors "salt" and "pepper". They contain no additives. Even the normal chips brands like La...

Yes, I know, but I thought it were the dirty proteins which cause acne, and oil does not contain protein, so I would conclude that it won't cause acne. Granted, it's not good for you, but my sole purpose for asking was about the acne.

I haven't, but you could try it. I do have another question about using oil. Does it matter if one uses the non-virgin oil? I like my mayo better without the strong taste of olive oil, and since oil doesn't contain proteins, I guess it doesn't matter much, right? I know it's not as healthy, but I'm ...

Munch foods: chocolate and potato chips

Hi, I was wondering how bad chocolate and potatoes chips are when it comes to getting acne. They contain only about 5% proteins by weight, and because acne is mostly about the cooked protein, does that mean it probably won't cause (much) acne when eaten in small amounts? Of course, the salt in potat...
