fig and nut balls

Post by jjah »

I like to crush the brazil nuts and mix them with chopped up figs and roll into balls. to help keep them from being sticky I put a little olive oil in a bag and then add them to lightly coat with the oil.

Another good one is adding coconut oil to the mixture and frigerating to make nice and hard.
Or using rasins or adding some dark chocolate.

Maybe coconut would be great with it too?

yes, I have added coconut also and it is realy good. Thier are so many ways to make them. Rolling in sugar is realy good too. I like to have them to cary with me in my purse or when I go on walks; so easy to just pop one in your moulth and keep on going. I also measure out the ballance between the sugar and fat ratio so I never have to try to but the brazil nut pieces togeather to equal one. (I have a hard time keeping them whole when cracking) The only downside is that you can't make a large batch, becuase of the nuts, but I wonder if being mixed with the oil and sugar doesn't help to preserve the freshness of the shelled brazil nut.(though they have come in contact with air???)

Preserving freshness of the nuts is not that important, is it?
To me it tastes good anyway.

Yes,

I like figs, but they have so many tiny seeds and rich fiber.

Sure, too heavy for bulk food,
but delicious as a treat.
