snail?

Post by Kookaburra »

Escargots are cooked land snails, hence they are not included in the sample diet. What about raw pond snails?

In general they are not safe to eat raw, in as much as most prawns are not safe to eat raw,
due to what they eat.
Most prawns feed on small mollusks / snails (except for the deepwater greenland prawns)
Snails may be infected with Angiostrongylus cantonensis, and these may cause eosinophilic meningitis, which can sometimes be lethal.
(a lot of "maybe"s, but still).

Yet, its is possible to eat raw pond snails safely,
but then you need to be in control of their feedings from the moment that their eggs start to hatch (in a controlled tank).
They will feed on algae, so that you dont need to target feed them too specifically.

That's what I'm talking about, RRM, a whole new world of knowledge 8)
My friends had sushi the other day and came up with this name of the snail version of it: snushi :P
No-one wanted to have snushi, though
