Based on the article, found here, do you all still find refined sugar safe to consume?

That was a good laugh.

Yes, I'll keep my sugar.

Wholistic, we should be more concerned about DHMO than sugar: http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

I am not sure why all that info, which was substantially backed up by
many seemingly reliable references, was anything to laugh about.

I have personal experience with eliminating all refined sugars
from my diet, and it had many positive effects, such as:

Reducing acne
Completely eliminating eczema
Reducing symptoms of allergies
Making me feels better all over, and have so much more energy

I would not recommend the ingestion of refined sugars to my
worst enemy!

How can you be sure it's the refined sugar which did all that? Most people do not ingest refined sugar in its 'pure' form, but rather contained in for example sweets, soft drinks, etc. When reducing those foods and getting positive results, there are too many factors in play to point the finger at a single culprit.

Yeah, you can always hide a simple fact.

But, name ONE thing that sugar does good for you.
I mean, of course one needs carbohydrates, but
I am talking about refined sugar. Name one thing..

Refined sugar undergoes a process that includes chemical treatment. White sugar has even been bleached with chlorine. Those are facts that cannot possibly be taken lightly. There are many more reasons not to eat sugar. I wouldn't ever eat it. How can we as raw foodies possibly trust some huge companies to care what gross ingredients they add to the highly processed product to make it look perfect. It is so risky.

The nutrients we need can be divided into two categories:
1. Micronutrients, of which we don't need so much: vitamins, minerals, trace elements
2. Macronutrients, which make up the bulk of our daily needs: carbohydrates, fats, protein.

Carbohydrates are needed for energy. Glucose and fructose are the sugars we need most. Sugar (sucrose) is glucose and fructose combined. Most fruits also contain sucrose, next to glucose and fructose.

Pure energy.
Its practical for when you need energy quickly and efficiently.
Sometimes there is less time to eat whole fruits, and if you are busy or on the go, you need the energy to keep you energetic and going (to prevent the breakdown of muscle protein for energy)
Adding sugar (together with a little oil) to OJ is a very effective method to ensure yourself with enough energy for the whole day with just 1 or 2 bottles. You can take them wherever you go, and you never need to take some time to eat something.
With the job that i do, i would never have enough time to eat enough. The OJ with sugar and oil is a lifesaver for me.

OK, I can see why it can be a "lifesaver" as you say, to someone that
really do not have the time to eat enough fruits to cover the
daily energy need. But I really do not see why one can not use
honey, fructose or at least brown cane sugar, instead of that white
stuff...

Honey is far more expensive, as you need to use cold-processed honey.
Brown (cane) sugar is not allowed on the sample diet, as its not pure enough.
We advise against using fructose as that will imbalance the fructose / glucose ratio. All natural foods contain both and its unnatural to let fructose dominate too much. In the body its all about balance and fructose goes a very different metabolic pathway than glucose, and has different effects on the body.

Thanks for clearing that up, RRM.
I still would rather go for honey though, but
I see why it might be to expensive.

I just saw a video on youtube on how sugar is made:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIgavNuBRRA

And I am still skeptical about consuming sugar.

Firstly, there were so many steps! The machines that were used seemed dirty. How were sugar made back in our ancestor days when there were no technology? The way I see it, sugar is man-made and not natural.

I am also curious whether heat destroy sugar? If I heat sugar, can I still consume it?
