melons alone

Post by johndela1 »

I've read in many books that melons don't mix well with other fruits or even other melons. Is there any truth to this? The wai book says to mix melons with bananas.

Some melons combine well with bananas, whereas others (watermelon)dont. But like many things, this is also individually different; whats perfectly ok for some, is less perfect for others.

What about mixing the melons with fat, like olive oil, coconut oil or nuts?

The concern is just about mixing it with other fruits. Mixing it with fats should be fine.

Is muskmelon the same thing as cantaloupe?

I think they are roughly the same, but:
Muskmelon (Cucumis melo 'reticulatus') is commonly known in the trade as a cantaloupe. However, no cantaloupes are actually grown commercially in the United States, only muskmelons. Cantaloupes (Cucumis melo 'cantaloupensis') are a rough warty fruit while muskmelon have the characteristic netting on the fruit rind.

I read somewhere that muskmelons were a family of melons that included cantaloupes and honeydew... Heh, it's ok, I was just wondering.
