is durian safe?

Post by johndela1 »

I just read this:
http://discovermagazine.com/2007/mar/vi ... :int=1&-C=

I'd like to know if the durian alone can cause this. I've eating lots of durian over several days and never felt bad. I'm thinking the person that suffered in the article had other health problems that had a role in this.

No, durian cannot be the cause, because its potassium level is only less than twice to up to 4 times as much as other natural foods (fruits, fish etc). The body can deal with such minor fluctuations perfectly.
Durian is not that high in potassium.

potassium levels (in mg per 100 gram)
1800 soya beans / flour
1750 lima bean
1340 white beans
1000 potato crisps
927 pigeon pea
800 soft clam
633 spinach
600 durian
547 baked potato

Excessive amounts of coconut water are good at creating potassium overload.

A coconut's water can contain up to 15x the potassium of a banana. And on a juice or liquid-mostly diet, it is possible to consume an amount equivalent to 5-10 coconuts in 24 hrs.

That may be due to the high potassium contents.
Do you have the same result from consuming coconuts?
Durians are extremely heaty and cause blood rush.
Thats a blunt statement.
They dont cause that. (as in 'always' or 'often')
But maybe some people feel that way after eating it.
Is there any explanation for it?
Durian contains very specific ingredients, such as hydrogen sulphide, and it may be that your body reacts to that.
