Bananas a complete protein??

Post by panacea »

Was reading and some guy which has been eating tons of bananas per day for 23 years wrote this
[Bananas] are one of two fruit that are a complete protein.
Does anyone know what this means, and if true, what's the other fruit?

Its not true.
A complete protein means "containing all the required amino acids".
Its true: for a small part of the protein in banana all required amino acids are represented.
But the same is true for all other fruits (and foods in general).
All required amino acids can be found in those foods.
However, in almost all foods a few amino acids are underrepresented,
meaning that only a small part of their protein can be used for (re)construction purposes
(only a small part of their protein is 'complete')
For most foods the most underrepresented amino acid is methionine.
In some foods (grains) it may be lysine and in other foods it may be tryptophan, or phenylalanine,
or even isoleucine. (and in escargots it may even be threonine)
But still, all those foods still contain all amino acids.
