Sipping vs Drinking

Post by Kookaburra »

Any difference if I drink a cup of OJ in 5 minutes and rest 2 hours VS sipping from a cup of OJ for 2 hours? The energy consumed is the same for both scenarios right?

1 cup in 2 hours is way too little, but i guess its just an example.

Lets change the example to a more realistic one.
You need about 3000 kcal / 24 hours.
Distract 8 hours of sleep, which leaves us with 16 hours of energy consumption,
which is about 188 kcal / hour,
which requires about 400 ml of OJ (2 glasses) per hour.

But yes, if you drink 800 ml of OJ in 5 minutes and rest 2 hours VS sipping from 800 ml for 2 hours,
the total energy consumed is the same for both scenarios, indeed.

But...
Drinking 800 ml (4 glasses) of juice in 5 minutes is too much sugars at once;
it spikes your blood sugar and insulin too much, followed by too low blood sugar.
If you are not being physically active (which requires more energy, more juice)
its better to take a few sips every 15 to 30 minutes.
If you are going to be physically active right away, you can take 2 glasses at once though (with sugar added),
but then you will be needing more energy soon.

188 kcal/hour is equivalent to 1 cup of OJ.

No.
1 cup of OJ contains 112 kcal.
Thus 188 kcal / hour is equivalent to 1.68 cups of OJ / hour,
which is equivalent to 3.36 cups of OJ / 2 hours.

You are right. I mistook 188 for 118. Is the 3000 kcal / 24 hours based on FDA recommendations? If I overslept(10 hours), do I then take 3000/(24-10)=214.28kcal/hour?

All along, I only drink a cup of OJ every 1.5 to 2 hours. I guess I got to increase that intake, huh? Actually, what's wrong with a lower calorie intake? I thought the Wai diet provides all the nutrients that you need even though your calorie intake is lower.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_restriction
Calorie restriction without malnutrition[1] has been shown to improve age-related health and to slow the aging process in a wide range of animals and some fungi.

no, its not possible to make energy recommendations,
as it differs per person, and depends on what you do.
Its not possible to calculate what you need, exactly.
(it is actually, in a scientific setting, but not like this)

Yes. Thats too little.

You lose muscle mass.
But if thats ok with you, go ahead.

No, its based on adequate energy intake.

Yes, i know.
But is says: "without malnutrition".
If you keep on losing weight, thats malnutrition.
The reason why it slows down aging, is because it slows down cell replication.
