Room temperature OJ

Post by panacea »

How long will room temperature OJ stay fresh enough to be useful to consume? How harmful is it to let room temperature OJ (lets say 1 L of it) stay at room temps for 1 hour while only consuming half of it, then consume the other half in the next hour?

I'm pretty sure that 2 hours won't be an issue. Define "useful".

Just wondering what is good practice/bad practice, that's all. I have heard that some foods like raspberries can keep in the fridge for only 1-3 days, while they can keep in the freezer for 10-12 months.. If there is that drastic of a difference, perhaps room temperature OJ can spoil in only an hour, so I asked.

Is there a difference in storing raw OJ at room temperature:
a) in a glass jar?
b) in a glass bottle with a narrow opening?
c) in a swan necked glass ware?
d) in a glass jar, with a few drops of oil?
e) in a glass bottle with a narrow opening, with a few drops of oil?
f) in a swan necked glass ware, with a few drops of oil?

oxygen exposure and temperature are the main factors regarding destruction of nutrients, the question is what is the rate of degradation, and how much of it is oxygen and how much due to temperature. would putting ice in OJ make it like storing in the fridge, or would the oxygen still destroy a lot of nutrients, etc

My experience is that orange juice may stay good at room temperature for about 24 hours maximally.
After that you will definitely start noticing the fizz.
When it is not good anymore, the taste will definitely tell you.

Absolutely harmless.

Same experience, one day max, less if it's been in the fridge before. 2-3 days in the fridge is ok.
