OJ study, lowers LDL

Post by johndela1 »

I thought this was interesting:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3750609/

summary:

Long-term orange juice consumption is associated with low
LDL-cholesterol and apolipoprotein B in normal and moderately
hypercholesterolemic subjects

Hi John,

Yes, because of the flavonoids and folic acid.
Lowering cholesterol is not necessarily a good thing in people with normal /moderately high blood cholesterol levels.
Consuming loads of OJ (like me), you may need a bit extra animal food (for cholesterol).

I found this an interesting confirmation of my thoughts:
"consumption of pure fruit juices ... did not contribute to weight gain" Chun OKet al, Sartorelli DS et al, Ruxton CH et al
"consumption of orange juice does 'not contribute' to the development of weight gain and obesity ... in children O'Neil CE et al
