True, except when flesh gets exposed.

Hmm for me oranges seem to yield only 40% too :(

Are your oranges 'sweetened' (to avoid using 'ripened') enough?

They were pretty soft and quite thin peel.. I'm really puzzled. Maybe my hand juicing is not so good.
What are your experiences, regarding bigger or smaller oranges?

For comparison with other findings in this thread:
How many oranges do you need to get 1 L of OJ?

Number of oranges is not the best metric, weight would be much better.
I'll report back when I get my OJ press, right now I'm not really juicing as much as 1L

But to put it in perspective of this thread, 2 oranges weighing 414g produced 176g OJ. So that means 11.4 medium-small oranges (or 2.35kg) for 1L

Sounds normal to me, but then I never weigh my oranges.

Ah, you are including the peel, i think.
In my banana example, i didnt; so 40% juice vs 60% pulp.

I get a crate of oranges for 14 euros, it's weight is between 15 and 17 kg and I have been tracking how much juice I am making because I'm trying to find out all of my monthly expenses. After 2-3 crates I'm at 1.64 Euros/L. I'm very happy with this result.

2kg oranges give me a little more than 1 L of juice, like 1.20 on avg. I don't strain it, because my citrus juicer does a very good job at getting everything out (solis press) and if I've got a lot pulp, I let it run through the versapers.

You're getting those oranges really cheap! I'm thinking to order 45kg from amazon at 1.5eur/kg, so that would give me like 3eur/L OJ.. 2x more expensive.

I got my juicer; 2kg oranges give me around 1.1L OJ, which means 3eur/L for OJ.
