rosacea

Post by Mr. PC »

So I'm quite certain I have Rosacea. I've done two 'quizes' and scored 10/10 and 14/15; and the symptoms describe my face very accurately.

http://www.rosaceafacts.com/rosacea-quiz-results.aspx

I read this study, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18456568, which talks about Rosacea becing caused by intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and how a non-absorbative antibiotic was able to cure many patients for over 9 months (after treatment).

There's another study, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22933353, which kinda freaks me out (I don't want to think about mites in my skin).

I went to a general doctor, and told her about the first study; she hadn't heard of it. In Canada the drug exists under a different name but is only used for travellers diarea, and not for Rosacea. I'm considering asking her if she'll give it under the guise of traveler's diarea, and just alter the dosages accordingly.

But she'd also like me to try a topical solution first, which is mostly why I'm asking here. I've read that chamomile is good, but I don't know why or how, whether it's better to use a commercial cream or just pure chamomile. Any ideas are of course welcome!

Thanks

rosacea.org says "it is not unusual for seborrheic dermatitis to appear concurrently with rosacea". In the past I'ev always thought it was seborrheic dermatitis, because of my dandruff, and dradle-cap as a baby, so maybe it's both? Maybe Ishould provide photos?

Sorry for these 3 posts in a row. I have percentages on the various Rosacea triggers for different people.

82 sun
57 stress heat
53 products
41 spice
40 alchohol
40 hot bath

Sulpha drugs are often used topically; (when I was a kid I had a reaction to a sulpha drug.)
sun protection is recomended daily in any kind of weather. I know the general consensus here is that sun protection isn't neccesary unless you're gonna get burnt, but I wonder in my case, with ultra light-sensitive skin, rosacea etc, if the sun is doing more harm than a screen would.

I'll start washing my eyes with baby shampoo, as that's been recomended for ocular rosacea, and I'll let you know how that goes as well.

Two other things I'm considering are, tea tree oil soap and vitamin E.

There's a lot of writing that says it's igmportant to clean your face twice a day with a "Creamy, low-foaming non-soap, fragrance-free cleanser". Maybe it's mostly targeted toward women who wear makeup etc? I shower every day or two; I've always felt that facewashing would be irritating especialy since there's no dirt on my face, and I figure any oil is useful.

I've also been using vasoline as a barrier, only on the right-side of my nose and forehead; it has a positive effect but not very significant.
