Mercury in fish
In case no one has visited http://www.gotmercury.org thought I would pass this along. Note that I have a freezer full of vaccum packed sushi grade tuna.

According to this, the government for once may be low-baling the mercury levels in Tuna???

If you're worried about mercury and other metals there are ways to detox while staying 100% Wai. I've been researching a bit about it, as I've been eating fish nearly every day. I found this site that has a clay bath for mercury detox (http://www.magneticclay.com/productlist.php) - they've had good feedback from people with children with autism, etc., so it seems legit - I'm going to try it sometime and I'll let you know how it goes.
If you're not 100% Wai, then cilantro is said to help mobilize heavy metals from the brain - it seems to have a specific action there. Also, chlorella binds to mercury and a few other metals in the digestive tract so that it can be disposed of.
Just thought I'd pass that info along - I'll let you know if I find any other viable options.

And I know Aajonus V. says there's difference between cooked fish and raw fish- mercury wise... but I have found no real evidence.
I love cilantro- that sounds interesting!
I just read this:
http://www.mercola.com/2002/jun/19/mercury_fish.htm
And you know, maybe to be safe it wouldn't hurt to do a Mercury test. I believe from a few strands of hair it's possible and there are testing facilities online and I read the Sierra club.
Because, fish is a mainstay of the Wai diet, it may be a good idea to simply be aware.
I love sashimi and eat it often. Im going to look into what is involved in testing. Because I do eat a lot of fish, if my test is fine, then that would be a pretty good indication that I can keep eating the wai I do

Oscar:
Except for this statement:It's funny that that specific Mercola article technically isn't about fish, but sea mammals, whale and dolphin.
Which seems pretty direct. It is my strong recommendation to avoid all fish, unless you are absolutely certain that it has been tested in a laboratory and shown not to contain detectable levels of mercury and other toxins.
It has mercury that will absolutely compromise your health.
That is why testing is important.
Who is testing? Anyone here on Wai?
Do we blindly follow the rats to the Sea?
Has anyone been tested for Mercury levels here on Wai? Or for that matter any Sushi/Sashimi lovers? Ive been eating Sushi for years and yes, have mercury fillings...
If, we can detox mercury, while eating fish- that, is beyond good. We should know though what we are doing. It's called being informed, and to dismiss it off hand is wrong.
Please know I am not, looking for holes in the Diet- just a healthful approach.
Whoever tests last is a rotten egg

Hi Oscar,
Do you know what we are supposed to do with the metal fillings? I had a dentist that did a ton of fillings for me and my whole family when we first arrived in the States. At one point, my dad was considering suing because there didn't seem to be any justifications for the filling (except for the tab in favor of the dentist), especially my mom who had really strong teeth and was always fine without. He also found out that other patients got the same excessive treatment.
Can we take them out eventually?

LOL! I like to keep people off balance...avalon wrote:Whats the 'catch' with your last post? It was, like polite and nice and stuff...I was expecting a funny picture, a nurse with a syringe...
hmmm
Avalaon mumbles:
(paranoia will destroy-ya)
It might not be a bad idea to start substituting them with composite ('white') fillings.Chin-Chin wrote:Do you know what we are supposed to do with the metal fillings?
The dentist who treated you and your family, was either old or a fraud, and maybe both. There used to be a motto: "extension for prevention", meaning it was better to do a filling before there could be a cavity. I think about 30 years ago they slowly started to ditch that practice.
To sue a dentist is very difficult, because it's almost impossible to prove.
I went to the doc the other day to get a blood test.
i asked for : red/white blood cells, Cholesterol, PTH (thyroid), vitamin B12, zinc and MERCURY! She looked at me real funny when I asked for this one. She said that here in Holland they never do mercury tests...
So I don't know yet if they will actually do it or not. Hopefully I'll know in a few days.
But what is this hair test about? Could you tell us more avalon?
Also does anyone know how you can test for candida?

I had my mercury fillings (both of them) removed three years ago. Unfortunately, while I was aware of the dangers of mercury in my body (and hence opted to have the amalgams removed), I went to my regular dentist who is ignorant about the dangers involved in the actual removal. So, he refused to use a dental dam and take various other precautions to protect us both from further mercury exposure. I didn't know any better at the time. So, while he was grinding away at the amalgams, I probably inhaled mercury vapour and swallowed tiny filings of mercury. I definitely was 'poisoned' after the removal, because I was incredibly weak and lethargic and nauseous for several days. I had composite fillings put in, and since the amalgam disaster I have been reading a great deal about mercury detox. I've been told by a naturopath that a proper mercury detox protocol is very complicated, and is not as simple as eating more cilantro or taking DMPS. It in fact involves a whole slew of supplements and detox measures, including chlorella and mega-doses of vitamin C. This naturopath told me, it's all very well to mobilise the mercury, but most people make the mistake of not following the right chelation protocol. So, the 'free-form' mercury is floating around in the bloodstream without being chelated (bound) and escorted out of the body, which then poses the danger that it could be reabsorbed. Also, regarding the mercury stored in the brain, some poorly-followed detoxes could actually drive the mercury deeper into the tissues. So... whether you believe this naturopath completely or not (of course he was trying to sell me his own particular mercury detox 'system'), it seems that his cautionary note might be worth considering. Remember, we are dealing with a heavy metal here that does NOT belong in the body, under any circumstances, and is toxic even in trace amounts... so I figure it's probably wise to do some research and ask plenty of questions before you buy or take any supplements claiming to 'pull' mercury from your tissues.Chin-Chin wrote:Can we take them out eventually?
