I thought that you claimed that lipids are not protective?
(and even that there is no use for sebum at all; nature got it wrong)
no i dont doubt the emollient properties of lipids what i did doubt was sebums overall contribution to skin health, etc. based on these studies and based on the tons of people who had this sebaceous gland removal performed in korea who have had nothing but good reports so far. there are other important factors to consider like skin oils, collagen production, etc. as well

Many scientists believe sebum is just an evolutionary remnant of when humans had fur since its uses are well known in furry animals yet havent been (probably wont be) found in modern humans

Not that many.
As always, there are different opinions.
Let us not ignore nature's wisdom until we are sure its just a 'remnant'.

There are plenty of people that live in perfect health on just 1 kidney, but that doesnt mean that the second one is a remnant. Does it?

No but im saying people who dont wanna put up with acne the rest of their lives or dont want to stick to the diet this may be a good option for them. You can always add emollients to the skin but you cant take away acne scars or hyperpigmentation that some people may experience from persistent breakouts

that would be true if we dont need the sebum.
We dont know that.
Just an assumption.
We first have to find out what the long term consequences are.
