That parma ham is "aged" for a looong time (something like months, or even years?), and oxygen will have plenty of time to do some oxidation. At those low temperatures then it's probably slowed down a lot though. An interesting question is whether this aging is better than slow cooking for example, because technically the ham is still raw. I'm not sure why is it considered safe even though it's raw, whereas fresh raw pork is considered a big no-no.

I tried the humming today, and after only five breaths my throat got somewhat sore, and it's been itching me whole day today :) I can't imagine an hour of humming right now, I guess it's something you need time to adapt to.

Are there some longer-term studies on the effects of (higher) dietary nitrate btw?

I think I'll buy a juicer, primarily for bananas (I'm missing magnesium and potassium in my diet) and a bit of oranges, and possibly for juicing some vegetables like beets.

Any suggestions about what kind of juicer would fit best for this kind of use? Slow juicer? I don't know anything about juicers, I've been squeezing oranges manually so far.

Everytime we do that, you come and post something like: But the body has perfect regulatory mechanisms for that.
Not true.
I have not responded to trying to reach a CP of 60.
I also have not responded to Hour of power, nor Buteyko.
So, thats simply not true.
Im not responding to you or Kasper any different than from responding to others.
But you seem to don't share the opinion of chronic inflammations that need to be healed, or you just simply don't consider these as bad for you. So please, if you think that the body will resolve these inflammations by doing only the wai diet we have nothing to discuss, but we (the people :D) are experiencing otherwise and really see little to no improvements at these inflammatory areas.
Well, i really believe that your body can heal itself, particularly regarding inflammations.
But yes, i do think you will have to resort to 100% Wai consistently, and not just for a few months.
You are just a human being.
You cannot do what the body can.
Your body has all those receptors, signalling molecules and regulatory systems to finetune and heal itself.
Your body is so much more complex than you and Kasper seem to think.
You and Kasper seem to think we can just find a solution to your health issues,
but we cannot.
Kasper's long quest is proof of that.
How many aspects of your body have you researched?
How many more are to follow?
And you know what?
You never find THE solution.
Its not there, because everything in your body is connected, and its connected in such an extreme complex fashion that you cannot possible find a combination of drugs / treatments that will fix your issues.
But your body can, if you just stop hindering it in its efforts.

Wai diet seemed to help a bit
So, why did you stop trying to do it 100%?
Why not give it a REAL try for an extended period of time?
I was +90% for months and alot of days even 100%. I did still smoke, though.
What??????????????
Then stop making excuses and go 100% Wai for a year or 2.
(and no smoking, of course).
THEN we can continue our discussion.
But the last 2 weeks have been REALLY AWESOME:
Just wait and see.
If you continue this way, you will come back here and report and that its not so awesome anymore.
Just wait and see.

What are you trying to prove, overkees?
Did i ever say that nitrate has no effects in our body?
It's like your opinion on cholesterol RRM, our body makes it itself, but this level is suboptimal according to you. Just like the NO, no? :D
No, just like vitamin B3.
Our body makes vitamin B3 and cholesterol, but also ingests dietary B3 and cholesterol.
We dont ingest NO that we can utilize in our blood.
In nature, everything is about efficiency; so that our body has adjusted the production of B3 and cholesterol
in accordance with the consistent dietary availability of these nutrients.
Thats why we also lost the capacity to produce our own vitamin C, for example.
Makes sense, no?
Hmm, yes I do think I will not see nitrate as a medicine, but as a nutrient, just like some of the researchers are doing now.
I do understand that you seek justification for the things you do.
That will not help you with your issues though.
Only your body can heal that.

Go for the slow juicer called Oscar or Versaper. The best to juice fruits including banana. Search for a thread about this toping on the forum.
I have one and am totally satisfiyed wih it. However, it is not good at juicing green leafy vegetables.

I think I'll go for this one: http://www.kuvings.com/01product/produc ... &menu=A001
It's pretty expensive, almost 400 euros, but should be a good quality slow masticating juicer.
Anyway, sorry for going offtopic.

But RRM, I have solved my symtpoms. That was sleeping for lots of time a day. You said to me then that's probably what I need, you seem to be a big proponent of long sleep in general. I adapted my lifestyle and see what happened, I'm consistently at a maximum of 8 hours of sleep per night for quite a while, never have been since my youth. Now I am feeling the best I've ever felt in my life and sleeping an average of 6 hours naturally.

It is not about going on endlessly with all kinds of symptoms. Its just that I had alot of social, psychological and physical problems due to this oversleeping. It seemed that alot of other things needed to be fixed to fix this problem. That is why I believe in this theory, inflammation depletng energy. Therefore there came several undiagnosed things up: Like athletes foot, dandruff, gut problems and my dead tonsil. These are things I believe wai cannot fix, and if it can be fixed it will take a long time to fix it. Therefore I use antibacterial, probacterial extras to guide me to achieve it. This is information shared by artour on normalbreathing site, who Has helped tons of people (and i can also testify that I experienced the effects of buteyko instantly) has come across alot of problems like gut problems and athletes foot that keep the body in a chronic inflamed state that the body cant fix itself and therefore additional steps needed to be taken to solve it and go on. This has not been proven yet, but has been experienced by ALOT of people and I can again testify that indeed all this chronic inflammation markers improved and I have finally have been able to sleep less.

My goal was/is to sleep 4-6 hours naturally and I seem to be pretty darn close and maybe already achieved it. There is still some redness and a big tonsil left, so I will keep on humming and drinking beetroot juice.

Now comes the most curious part, and this is why you aren't correct in saying that I will not be in this state for a longer time and get other symptoms again. Because the buteyko hypothesis states that if you achieve 40cp 24/7, all your symptoms will dissapear within no time. So, if i just keep on doing what I am doing now, you will certainly see me posting that I still am in this state and hopefully will inspire you and others to also go for this. Because I really think you all deserve that +40 cp feeling and state too.

But your body can, if you just stop hindering it in its efforts.
I actually agree.

But what you actually mean to say, eat wai, and your body will fix yourself, because you don't hinder it.
But this is not true universally, I'm quite sure of that, maybe for you, maybe for a lot of people, but not for all.

What I think is true, is this:
Make sure you don't have any (chronic) inflammation issues, and your body will be able to heal itself.
And I think, that you personally, got in this state by eating wai. And therefore you see wai as the ultimate solution for everything.

The problem is that, for some people, even eating wai foods, cause inflammation. Read this for example from normalbreathing.com:
http://www.normalbreathing.com/how-to/h ... estion.php

Example 2. Oranges and other citrus fruits
Here is another example of a chemical trigger. When a person with an irritable bowel
syndrome (or Crohn’s disease) eats oranges, he or she may notice some adverse effects
about 2-4 hours later. These effects can include thirst, flatulence, sleepiness, nausea,
mental fog, and some others.
Oranges can be an allergy trigger for the immune system. At the same time, there are
other chemicals that are present in oranges that may not cause any allergic reaction, but
produce chemical damage to the inflamed lining of the GI tract. What are these
chemicals?
When the small intestine is inflamed, acids are able to damage its villi. This relates to
citric acid and ascorbic (vitamin C) acid present in oranges and other citrus fruits. Both
these acids are generally beneficial for our health. Ascorbic acid is even known as an
essential nutrient. However, the inflamed areas of the gut are not able to defend
themselves from any of these acids. Even 10 or 50 mg of vitamin C (50 mg is a daily
RDA dose) can be sufficient to trigger a digestive flare-up with negative symptoms.
Note that the prick test for oranges and other citrus fruits can be negative (no allergy
triggers). However, any time when citrus fruits are consumed, there is a negative
reaction. Obviously, if a person with such an adverse reaction consumes citrus fruits
every day, he or she will not be able to restore the gut.
There is an additional negative factor in most citrus fruits: fructose. People with digestive
problems often have Candida Albicans residing in their duodenum (the first part of the
small intestine). Candida yeast consumes simple sugars (like those present in nearly all
fruits) causing sleepiness, nausea, mood swings and mental fog. When the CP is less than
10 s, Candida can become systemic due to inability of the immune system to resist
pathogens even in the blood.
Among all citrus fruits, lemons and limes are safest in relation to Candida, but, as
explained above, even lemons and limes can cause adverse effects due to their acids. (The
effects of acids can be neutralized with baking soda as we are going to consider below.)

So, for some people, eating lots of oranges, will cause inflammation, and the body is not able to heal itself, and therefore your theory is incorrect.

In the end, most things we disagree about is this, you assume that:
Eating only wai food --> no triggering of inflammation --> body heals itself.
Eating non-wai food --> trigger of inflammation --> body cannot heal.

But this is just an assumption which may be true for yourself, but believe me, this is not true for everybody.
And besides that, even if you don't react on any wai food and eat 100% wai, than still, there may be thousand of other factors that trigger inflammation.
For example, if you're not moving, your posture is bad, you live in a dusty house, or whatever, there thousand of things which in the end will lead to inflammation issues, which hinders the body to heal itself, even if you're eating 100% wai and don't react on any wai food.

And than we are not even talking about internal triggers (gut flora for example) that cause inflammation, which makes sure the body is not able to heal itself. Therefore, clearly not in all cases eating 100% wai implies the body being able to heal itself.

Btw, I really appreciate the information you posted here overkees !
I don't have the time at the moment to really study those topics you've posted.
I can only give my personal experiences, and as you said, I also think nitric oxide is absolutely important.
I was thinking that choline in wheat grass could explain something of its positive effect as well.
But if wheat grass boost nitrix oxide, that would explain a lot to me as well, as I've been trying out L-arginine, and this is something which gives similar relaxtion effects as wheat grass does.
Optimally, I really think we should consume food high in L-arginine throughout the day instead of only one time in the evening for example.
Having three meals, with some animal food high in L-arginine for example.
Or eating nuts throughout the day could also work. Alltough I believe we shouldn't get too much fat from plant foods.

Oh man, this thread has gotten so lost. Is anyone actually still working on buteyko, or have you all gone off to the supplement cabinet?
And yeah, the nitric oxide thing is nothing new especially to normalbreathing site, it was one of the first things I read about.

Basically Artour believes that nitric oxide is extremely beneficial and is the main reason why slow, long, and quiet exhalations and quick, short, and small inhalations are so important (because as you will read below this helps the body utilize the NO from nose breathing).
Of course, there is no ground breaking discovery that NO by itself will magically cure everybody, body builders have been taking loads of it off and on as new supplements come out for ages, and getting about 5% of the effect of creatine (basically not much).
So, if you want more NO, and health benefits, change your breathing, and save your wallet.. for like the 1000th time..

Here's an excerpt from the big book which has a whole section on it:

Code: Select all

1.13 Role of nitric oxide
There are numerous studies published over the past 80 years regarding the negative effects of hypocapnia (low
level of CO 2 ). Hence, CO 2 is the most known and investigated factor that relates to overbreathing. Which other
parameters of the body become abnormal during and because of hyperventilation?
Normal nasal breathing helps the body to use its own nitric oxide. This substance is produced, among other
places, in nasal passages. During normal breathing, we have quiet prolonged exhalations (that do not prevent
accumulation of nitric oxide in some areas of nasal passages) and relatively quick inhalations (that allow inhalation of
the accumulated nitric oxide). Duirng hyperventilation exhalations are forceful and quick (as one can observe in many
sick people) and inhalations are slow. This reversal of the main stages of breathing decreases the utilization of nitric
oxide.
The roles and some important effects of this hormone on the body have been discovered very recently and
there are still many questions in relation to this substance. Nitric oxide is found and synthesized in endothelial cells
that line the lumen of blood vessels, neurons, and macrophages. As a gas, it is routinely found in nasal passages and
measured in exhaled air. The known functions of the NO include:
1. Vasodilation of arteries and arterioles (and hence regulation of blood flow to tissues). In this respect, NO
is similar to CO 2 acting on the smooth muscles of blood vessels.
2. Regulation of binding and release of O 2 to haemoglobin. This NO function is again similar to the CO 2
function known as the Bohr effect.
3. Destruction of parasitic organisms, viruses, and malignant cells by inactivating their respiratory chain
enzymes in mitochondria.
4. Inhibition of inflammation in blood vessels.
5. Neurotransmission. Learning, memory, sleeping, feeling pain, and some other processes require NO for
transmission of neuronal signals. On the other hand, brain cells can probably be killed during a stroke due to excessive
production of nitric oxide.
6. Hormonal effects. NO influences secretion from several endocrine glands. It stimulates the release of
adrenaline from the adrenal medulla, pancreatic enzymes from the exocrine portion of pancreas, and Gonadotropin-
releasing hormone from the hypothalamus.
Abnormal NO production and its availability are now associated with hypertension, heart failure, stroke,
obesity, diabetes (both type I and II), atherosclerosis, rheumatism, aging, and dyslipidemias (particularly
hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia).
Currently there are numerous studies world-wide related to the role of NO in human health and diseased states.
It is beyond the scope of this book to provide these studies.
Practice shows that possibly for some people some health improvements can be achieved mainly through the
correction of one’s breathing pattern, which can normalize production and utilization of nitric oxide, while CO 2
changes could be small. Hence, in these people nitric oxide can play, during some stages of breathing normalization,
the leading role in health restoration.

Lol panacea, haven't you read my posts?
I said that I sleep 6 hours naturally atm.
In addition I run a minimal of 7km, breathing nasally, in 30-40 minutes a day, and sometimes an additional 5km on barefoot on all kinds terrains (gravel for example).
I'm letting my body cool off naturally and afterwards I am taking a coldshower for 10 minutes.
I treat my athletes foot daily with acids and apply bentonite clay and vaseline on them to prevent the fungus from getting back and making sure it is really killed.
I now hum everyday to fix my one remaining dead tonsil (it is starting to shrink actually!!!).
My guy health is perfect and stable for 2.5 weeks now btw. I am not on probiotics for 5-6 weeks or something and have no soiling effect.

I am drinking Orange juice, barley grass (10g of powder a day), carrot juice, beet juice and chlorella powder (4g a day) everyday. I am also using 1mL of fermented skate liver oil and eating a mixture of ghee, coconut oil and red palm oil (40-70g total) during the day. In the evening I eat raw honey. 1 piece of 90% chocolate of 25g on some of the days in the week. I eat 6 yolks a week, 200g fish a week, 200g parma ham a week. I really feel that the protein reduction is increasing my energy alot.

My CP is almost always 35s and alot of time above 40s. I'm not pushing it and just going on with what I'm doing.

overkees, do you make your own "raw" ghee ? I have tried many times raw butter but I always ended up with a severe cold with pain in my throat. Maybe clarified butter would make it.
What is the benefit to take carrot juice?
Parma ham is very salty unfortunately.
Beetroot juice doesn't taste very good.

Omg fred, I don't know what it is. But i posted a very large piece of info on my fat soluble diet consisting of 20g ghee, 20g red palm oil and 20g coconut oil a day. I also drink 20g olive oil in the OJ every day. It was about the whole spectrum of beneficial different fatty acids you are receiving and the vitamin contents in detail... and it is all gone!! Just like the last time on my HUGE gelatin post. Dammit I should've copied it into a word document and learned of my mistake.

It came down to (the RPO, CO and Ghee mixture):
Retinol in Vitamin A: 20%
Vitamin D: 20 %
Vitamin E (7 different kinds!!!!): 150%
Vitamin in the form of the very beneficial K2: 20%

Alot of beneficial SCFA, MCFA and LCFA ( - chain fatty acids). Also CoQ10 and polyphenols. The Olive oil provides a very good kind mono unsaturated acids and other phenols.

Make sure the butter is organic fed spring grass eating cows. These have 5-10 times as much vitamin k2 as the commercial butters that contain about 15mcg/100mg. Also the retinol content and the vitamin E and vitamin D are higher.

So yes, I make my own ghee from this butter. It is not raw, but I use a cheesecloth and a very low fire.

Carrot juice: I like carrot juice and it is very nutrient dense. It also contains virtually no antinutrients I believe. i juice it myself from organic carrots.

And what about people like me who simply can't really do the diet at 100% ?
I have been on a modified version for more than 2 years now (look back at my first messages). I cant' digest oily fish, and egg yolks give me gas, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea. (nuts are also inedible for me). I tried to introduce these foods very slowly but it didn't work. Juicing and eating small amount at a time were/are a big progress, and I thank you RRM for your great help, but I am currently not able to stick to the 100% diet. I eat fruit juices, fruits, honey, coconut/olive oil, and meat/seafood. A few egg yolks sometimes. Very few munch food for social reason.

Why do you stress being 100% wai for 2 years ?
You once said that the difference between 99% and 100% is not health but addiction related.

You talk about stop hindering the body.
But you don't give any scientific arguments why eating 100% wai would make sure the body isn't hindered anymore.

Why would I believe you, that if I eat 100% wai for 2 years, I will have solved all my health problems ?
You don't give any convincing arguments. And you don't even react on my post.
You think that it is all about not interfering with the bodies healing process.
But for some people, oranges interfere with the bodies healing process.
Should you still eat oranges?
For some people fruit interfere with the bodies healing process.
Still eat 2kgs of fruit ?
For some people egg yolks interfere with the bodies healing process.
Still eat egg yolks ?
For some people, non-diet external factors interfere with the bodies healing process.
Still it's only about eating 100% wai ?
For some people, it's not about external factors, but about internal factors that interfere with the bodies healing process.
For some people the gut flora produces an enormous amount of toxins every second of the day.

You don't think this interferes the bodies healing process ?
Well, it does...
Every well-thinking person would conclude: Make sure you solve this fabric of toxins in your gut.
But what do you say?
Just eat 100% wai, so you don't interfere the bodies healing process.
Do you see what I mean?
In your case, maybe the only things that interfere with the healing process are external factors.
So eliminating all external factor that interfere with the body does work.
But for some people internal factors will be present, whether eating 100% wai or not.
So, this person will not reach this zero intervention zone on 100% wai.
And the body will never be able to heal itself.

But never mind, you don't seem to be able to improve your views in the next 20 years.
So please don't waste your time by responding on this post.
If I want to know your opinion I can read your old posts or waiworld.com.
