Where/how to find fresh fish in NY?

Post by Corinne »

Hello dear forum members...

In a couple of days I'll be leaving to the States: I'll be in NYC for about two weeks and want to know where or how I can find good fish, besids eating in Japanese restaurants...
Ideas anyone?

Hi Corinne :D

I'm not a New Yorker but I do recall a member on this thread mentioning about finding some good fishes from a fish market in NYC. I did some search through the board and I came up with this:

I hope that helps a bit.

Btw, are you going to NYC to perform? Have a safe journey Corrinne!

Where are you staying in New York?
What borough? What area?
I know a lot of places but you may need to travel. If you try any Korea/China/Japan area, just buy from the supermarket if need be.

I just arrived yesterday and I'm staying on west 90th.

I notice produce is not that great here (so far) and expensive compared to Amsterdam...

Go to Chinatown. If you ask where the Chinatown bus station is, right near the manhattan bridge, you'll see several blocks of produce. I most recently bought a case of mangos and asian pears for $3 each.

Thanks guys!
I'll check out China town today.
For fish it's still difficult. I've been eating at japanese places but most of them are expensive: 2$ average for 2 small pieces of fish!
