Circadian rhythm

Post by Mr. PC »

I'm curious why nurses in Canada are very unhealthy (they are 'on their feet' walking all day, and many are overweight, based on my mom's experience as a nurse and being around many other nurses). Aren't they constantly getting low level excersisce?

It may have to do with having to work night shifts on occasion.
Your circadian rhythm is very important.

I'd like to read more about sleep patterns though now that you mention it.

You can start with that wiki page (the link above).
There are also lots of studies about it (in PubMed).

I'm not surprised, there's lots of possible reasons..
not much sunlight in canada, they're indoors, up late at night, highly stressed sometimes, expending a lot of energy, poor quality food, constantly bombarded by pathogens, they probably take a lot of vaccines/shots and other things preemptively which may have side effects, they sometimes work near high tech equipment which may have unknown harmful sideffects, they probably either suffer trauma from dying patients, have other psychological factors going on like working themselves too hard, overmotivated to help patients (very motivating job for some, can be a bad thing), etc...

if you had said, "I wonder why people picking fruit all day in a perfect climate (who also eat the fresh picked produce) are not healthy.." then I would be surprised...
