Evening Primrose, Black Currant and Borage Oils
Are any of these kinds of oil okay to take?
Here is a site that offers a bit of a description of the two ways it is produced: http://www.iodogs.com/Canine/Ingredients.aspxRRM wrote:That also depends on how they are made.
From fatty foods its less difficult to distract oil by cold pressing. I wonder how its done with the oils you mention.
Since they are seeds, perhaps extracting oil from them without needing much heat would be effective.
Currants are berries, which contain little fat.Seth wrote:Since they are seeds, perhaps extracting oil from them without needing much heat would be effective.
The evening primrose seeds seem to contain 7 to 10% of gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which is a bit much, as that one specifically competes with the omega 3 fat alpha linolenic acid (ALA).
Borage oil even contains 24% GLA (an omega-6), and also tannins, and pyrrolizidine alkaloids that are toxic to the liver. 'Thus it is considered an oil with ''pharmaceutical properties"
