Re: Coconut oil
I have been using this coconut oil for the past couple months. http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Extra-Virgin-Certified-Organic-Coconut-Oil-54-fl-oz Compared to EVOO, coconut oil goes down smoother for me. The EVOO usually leaves a sharp acrid sensation on the back of my throat, whereas the coconut oil is...

Re: Ripe Fruit Thread
Here are some sources on the web that I found. http://www.suite101.com/content/fruit-ripening-stages-a74859 http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryexperiments/ss/ethyleneexp.htm I personally ripen my fruits (mostly mangoes, apples, and pears) by placing lots of bananas on the fruits in a room at ~70...

I've noticed recently that the mangoes in the US are "Aphis Hot Water Treated." Not sure if this is better than being irradiated, but I found an article about it at: http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2009/09/organic-california-mangoes-in-sesason.html Either way, I'm still buying boxes of mangoes to mak...

I recently got those bottles for my oj and they're great! I also ended up getting some stainless steel straws since I can't be sure how safe the regular plastic straws are (whether they have BPA or not). A question for those using straws: What kind of straw do you use and do you wash them or how oft...

In my experience, the color of my urine is most affected by my hydration level. If I have been thirsty for a while when I pee, then my urine is most likely yellow. If a have been drinking water/juice or eating fruit, and pee half hour later, then my urine is most likely clear. It has to do with our ...

The "Hot" or "Cold" nature of foods
So I've come across this problem while on the Wai diet. I personally have been on this diet (~90%) for 10 months now. My wife has joined me for most of that time, but is now back to eating cooked foods. The reason for this is because her body was too cold most of the time due to the nature of the Wa...

At one point in the past, I did try to wake up just at the right time so I would be alert. I would set the alarm clock so that I would have slept ~7.5 hrs. I found that I would be a lot more alert if I woke up at 6, 7.5, or 9 hours of sleep (increments of 1.5 hrs, since that is how long the sleep cy...

I googled egg yolk color and found this site: http://www.chow.com/stories/11706 Interesting note: "Nestle explains that the color of a yolk is due specifically to carotenoids, which are natural pigments found in some plants. Some carotenoids, like beta-carotene, have nutritional value (our bodies co...

I believe it has something to do with our sleep cycles. Each cycle lasts about 1.5 hrs. If you wake up near the end of the cycle (at the REM stage), your brain should feel fine; but if you wake up at the beginning of the sleep cycle (NREM), you will feel drowsy, because your brain was taken from a l...

Washing fruits?
I was wondering if anyone uses a "fruit wash" to clean their fruits before eating. Normally I peel the skin (apples), but I need to use the fruit wash to clean strawberries since I can't really peel them. Here is an example of a fruit wash: http://www.amazon.com/Fit-Vegetable-Soaker-Refill-32-Ounce/...
