Re: ketogenic diet

I basically already did in a previous post I think on this very thread But the main difference is that fasting at length makes you feel tired and weak from little energy, but compacts a lot of autophagy/keto activity in and a ketogenic diet wai diet makes you feel focused and steady energy, with rel...

Re: Ketogenic metabolism

Pretty sure he was talking in general terms and based on an already keto-adapted individual, but probably he and I don't have backgrounds in medical terminology but it was so many years ago, the fact he knew about this stuff at all is amazing http://i.imgur.com/EFR1x56.png http://i.imgur.com/IbXDSLS...

Re: ketogenic diet

Correct, you also cannot be in starvation mode 24/7 without dying eventually. At some number of 24/7's (number of days), you have to exit starvation mode, whether that be exiting it from a ketogenic diet, fasting, another diet, exercising less, etc. Even if you start doing it "24/7" again afterwards...

Re: Ketogenic metabolism

Low protein isn't required to enter ketosis on a ketogenic diet, but moderate or low protein is. Similarly, the timing of eating protein matters. Eating a lot of protein in one sitting may throw you out of ketosis even if you only eat a moderate amount that day in total. Excess amounts of protein ar...

Re: ketogenic diet

@RRM Malnutrition: lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat , not eating enough of the right things, or being unable to use the food that one does eat. http://i.imgur.com/BLrG5fs.png Given that the definition of starvation is actually not fasting, or not inputting any energy at a...

Re: ketogenic diet

An article by a ketogenic diet expert 3 years ago, pasted here since it's relevant to longevity (not that I really care about that aspect of it). Ketogenic (very low carb) diet increases longevity by Jeff S. Volek, Ph.D., R.D. Ketones are important metabolites produced by the liver that increase whe...

Re: ketogenic diet

@RRM Actually ketosis / ketogenic diets do evoke autophagy. Just not the type of autophagy associated with low-protein autophagy. However, with a low protein ketogenic diet, which all correct ketogenic diets are because when keto-adapted, your body naturally requires less protein, even low-protein a...

Re: ketogenic diet

In other words, thinking logically, is not using symbolic logic like in math, but ignoring emotional bias as much as possible, by prioritizing the need for absolute truth above what is entertaining, easy, feels good, etc to believe. Sometimes the brain can trick you into not noticing that something ...

Re: ketogenic diet

@Novidez cravings for food is the sole reason people eat things like Potato Chips, and not raw fish. They crave unhealthy food, even though they know it's not the healthiest food and not the best for them. The vast majority of the modern world, when we have the ability to choose our own food due to ...

Re: ketogenic diet

Nutritional ketogenic diets induce autophagy on a higher level than any other diet, besides fasting, without the negative effects associated with fasting. Microfasts are much more tolerable on a ketogenic diet, than any other diet, since you have better access to body fat for energy, and don't rely ...

Re: ketogenic diet

also I really want to point out the most novel aspect of a keto diet once more, there is no need to stray from, and it's even extremely beneficial to stay 100% strict wai, while being in ketosis it's not a conflicting diet with wai, it's just different percentages of macronutrients and timing/sizing...

Re: ketogenic diet

And here's some more food for thought: A person who eats a shitty diet decides to fast in order to get healthier and try to age slower. They fast for 2 weeks, feel like shit, and then start to replenish by eating slightly less than they were before, since their appetite was lowered during fasting th...

Re: ketogenic diet

RRM, first of all, a ketogenic diet can be wai or not wai, just as a fruitarian diet can be wai or non wai since the best version is a raw wai ketogenic diet, why put it in non-wai section? when fasting, you can only compensate for an energy demand through consuming bodily energy stores, no matter w...
