D-mannoheptulose in avocado inhibits insulin secretion

Avocados contain a specific sugar, D-mannoheptulose [1], which has been shown to inhibit glucose phosphorylation [2], which in turn inhibits insulin secretion and messes up the glucose metabolism. Basically, they raise blood sugar making you less efficient at using glucose as energy source. They mig...

Re: Losing weight Dairy

3. Why can't I ovenbake apples? Apple is the only fruit that is more useful when baked as pektin which is in apple is easier consumed by body after baking. How do you know that's the only fruit btw? :-) If you're sure that baking makes it more digestible, then I'd guess it would work for other frui...

Re: Losing weight Dairy

I would only suggest that you avoid eating a lot of fruits (i.e. sugar) after the avocado salad. Probably it would be best to eat the avocado last, before you go to sleep. The reason is that avocado seems to cause a temporary diabetes-like situation in the body. I'll write more about this in a separ...

Re: Coconut oil

Yes, coconut oil is mostly saturated fat which is much more stable than unsaturated (e.g. olive oil) at higher temperatures.

...people who sleep sitting up, and can correctly nasal breathe ... only need to sleep for 3-4 hours per night, and feel more rested and more energetic That does not mean its better for you. Sleep is required for lots of recovery activities. "needing less sleep" may mean that you are inhibiting dai...

Re: 300 gram raw beef 4 L orange juice

That ratio is still quite large, it'd be better to add some olive oil instead of sugar to the juice. You could get some omega 3, vitamin A and D from 2-3 grams of fish liver oil per day. But you already have quite a bit of vitamin A there, 8000IU? For vitamin E you could include some nuts, usually t...

Re: beta-carbolines in fruit?

It's not that beta-carbolines in cooked food are so different/worse than those occurring naturally in food or in your body, but that heating results in much more beta-carbolines in the food. And since even a small amount of beta-carbolines is quite effective in the brain, you want to avoid the extra...

Re: Phytic acid in brazil nuts

Compared to brown rice (12509 mg / 100 g.), brazil nuts (1719 mg / 100 g.) are not that high in phytic acid. I think the number for brown rice is a mistake though, it doesn't make sense that 12g. out of 100g. are all phytic acid. Plus the percent in the first table is 0.84 - 0.99 whereas Brazil nut...

A handfull for me is 50 grams, I guess I have somewhat bigger hands :)
But all is clear, we just need to remove the skin and that should reduce it significantly.

Re: Phytic acid in brazil nuts

I suspect that most of the phytic acid is in the brown skin (as it seems for pretty much all foods it's in the outer layers, e.g. whole rice contains a lot more than polished rice), so we should at least make sure to always remove the skin.

Phytic acid in brazil nuts

Brazil nuts have very high levels of phytic acid! I understand they have some pretty high quality protein, but I'm not sure from where it comes that they are low on anti-nutrients. Maybe they also have high levels of phytase (the enzyme that neutralizes phytic acid)? I certainly hope so, because I'm...

Re: The Insiders Guide to Herbs and Supplements

Well none of the above herbs are really helpful if you're healthy. They are helpful and might be good for your health in certain situations only. Something natural which keeps you awake for a certain time without the bad effects of caffeine and similar things, would be useful when you need to retrai...

Plain fish is awesome, it has a really nice taste. I didn't like it much in the beginning, but now I would substitute any cooked food no matter how delicious for raw fish :) Fatty pink salmon and red tuna, mmm. Lemon just spoils the taste, haven't tried with oil/vinegar, and especially not with ging...
