Fermented orange juice

Post by ATK »

Hi!

On the old message board there was an interesting post by a fellow Waiian who was getting drunk off of his orange juice and sugar preparation (Post). Though certainly not done deliberately on his part, this fermentation of orange juice is, one website alleges, a popular method of obtaining alcohol amongst inmates housed in various correctional facilities. Known as "Pruno", it allegedly drives those who consume it into berserker frenzies. You can learn all about it, including how to make it, here (http://www.blacktable.com/gillin030901.htm). A process similar to this is most likely what 'Dalai Gamma' was inadvertantly experiencing, though the addition of catsup as per the website's recipe would, of course, render the concotion a 'munch food'.

...But seriously, don't make it!

HAHAHA, ATK, that's a funny website! :D

I loved the references to 'baby Pruno' - LOL

Anyway, the answer to preventing fermentation of your OJ (if you make it the night before) is NOT to add the sugar until the next morning (i.e. the day when you actually want to drink the OJ).

My hints, of course, presume that all the Wai-followers here prefer to do this diet 'sober'. :P

Naturally, if you want to drink your OJ fermented, that's up to you, but I think it's a jolly good waste of the magnificent clear-headedness that you gain after a few weeks on this diet!
