Storing bananas for ultimate deliciousness!

Post by overkees »

Okay, a friend told me a time ago that he read somewhere in a book that the best way to store bananas is in a half closed paper bag in the fridge. It doesn't necessarily has to be one banana, but can be a couple of bananas per bag too.

Normally, bananas will taste rather soapy when they are stored at roomtemperature. But now, in the paper bag the bananas ripen very slowly by very good. They taste really bananalike. Something like you've never had before. Please try and report back here. Best is to use bananas that are still a tiny bit greenish to ripen.

Yes because the concentration of the ethylene gas increases in the bag, which signals them to start ripen.
Perhaps when left out of a bag they are more decaying than ripening and this somehow produces that soapy taste?

Storing oranges

Post by dime »

Hi folks, I've got 15kg of oranges in a cardbox, is it ok if I leave them in it or? How do you store oranges in bulk?
I've got two boxes, I guess they'll be gone in two weeks.

I just leave them in the boxes. You could check if there are any moldy ones, because they will smell.
