Indoor mold.....toxic home?

Post by Maleko »

Aloha everyone,

Has anyone ever dealt with indoor mold issues? I live in hawaii and it is very humid where I live. All signs point to some serious mold allergies for me and my girlfreind in our house. We both wake up feeling extremely toxic/poisoned even with lots of fresh air. Everytime we come home my girlfreind starts sneezing and sniffling a ton.

We dont use any chemicals or anything in our home. We both feel worse when its extra humid or when there is no strong winds. I am constantly tired and my diet is quite pure.

Mold forms easily on things that are left out. I have seen black mold form on a wet towel overnight. Yet there is no visible mold in the house....I am sure there is some in the walls and under the shower though.

Any ideas besides ripping the house apart or moving? Also, has anyone experienced mold issues before?

Aloha.

Maleko,

What you feel, is unfortunately true; you get indeed poisoned by toxins produced by the moulds.
Isnt is somehow possible to make the air inside your house dryer by the use of a blower / van?

Yes RRM, I am going to buy one or two dehumidifiers. Hopefully it will help cut down on the mold spores.

A friend of mine had to deal with this, so this is what I recall of the process.

First, once it's in the walls you have to take things apart and either replace them or sanitize them with bleach.
If it stays there it will just continue to cause problems.

Dehumidifying is sometimes effective, but it can also be due to a leak somewhere in the house.
In this case a dehumidifier will not help much.
In other words, make sure you also address the cause of the problem.

But that's just what I recall.
I'm sure there's lots of good info online and also there are specialists that deal with this problem.
