sufficient protein, but not too much because too much protein will also make your skin retain more water.
Is the only drawback of excess protein water retention, or does it actually hinder muscle development due to (albeit minor) fluctuating blood sugar?

She means that if she fills her glycogen stores when there is no need for energy...

Yeah, if you do that you will gain weight. The reason? Your blood sugar will quickly drop making you feel hungry again.

No, high protein absolutely does not promote healthy hair.
On a high protein diet my hair was dull, lifeless, and dry.

On a reduced protein diet my hair is thick and flowing.

Osteoporosis and Acid/base balance

RRM, I love your osteoporosis article... However, I believe there must be more to it than calcium intake. It seems to me that when consuming a hgh meat diet with little fruit you get a 'double' because the meat creates a metabolic acidosis while there is little fruit to buffer it. Do you believe tha...

Hmm... Well, you have a point there. I guess I never thought of the possibility that they eat animal bones.
Although I'm not sure of how much calcium that would provide.

"It has been known for years that the ethnic group with some of the most severe osteoporosis on the planet are the Native American Inuit living in the Arctic. This is due in significant part to their ingestion of large quantities of high-protein fish and seal meat. This high-protein diet apparently ...

acid/alkaline balance

Lots of conflicting evidence out there regarding this issue.
It would seem that the Inuit were more acidic than anyone, but yet their lifespan (before westernization) was respectable.

How important is the acid/alkaline balance, and how far 'acidic' do you need to go before incurring health problems?

Another thing to consider with berries is that they have been selectively bred. Ever had a wild raspberry or blueberry? They are nothing like those found in the store.

When the muscles hypertrophy somewhat significantly, will they compete with the brain for serum glucose? Or does the body insure the brain's glucose needs are met and then begin to feed the muscles with whats left Thats a good question Kyle. I've noticed the same thing, that it's harder to study wh...

Excessive protien and bone demineralization

RRM, Read and enjoyed your articles regarding excessive protein, calcium etc. I have also read that the Eskimos (with their high protein diet) have the highest rate of osteoporosis in the world. How far must one go beyond their protein requirements to start demineralization? Also, does increased cel...

Don't worry about too little zinc or selenium. Too many trace minerals are pro-oxidative, and much of mineral absorption can be traced to bioavailability .
