Re: My current diet
Hmmm, maybe I should try one. I was just thinking that the citrus juicer would be hard on my wrists, but maybe not as hard as peeling all those oranges by hand/knife.
Isn't there quite a bit of waste with a citrus juicer? I really can't afford to be wasting O.J. The Hurom pulp is super dry.

Compared to the pulp of the Hurom juicer, yes.Mr. PC wrote: Isn't there quite a bit of waste with a citrus juicer?
Re: My current diet
I've been noticing for quite a while now, that when I have my 6 eggyolks, I always feel a little sickish afterward. I can never make myself eat more than 6, but even at 6 I feel this way.
Recently I've been eating a combination of the freerun/omega3, and regulars. I also eat them by simply cracking the egg over the sink, letting the whites drip out, rolling it in my hand a bit to get rid of the leftover yolk sticking to it, then sucking the yolk out of the bag. But I've been doing this for a while, and not noticed a problem. I also used to enjoy the taste of yolks much more than I do now.

Re: My current diet
I have the same experiences, I don't enjoy the taste so much anymore. Maybe you just get used to it after some time. Or maybe the body is saying we're eating too many egg yolks?
I don't feel sickish after 6, for me it's more like after 8-9, so I just eat around 7, and I eat them the same way as you.

Re: My current diet
Normally I eat 10 egg yolks. But after doing this for weeks they were starting to give me a sick feeling. I'm now happy with 6-8 yolks without the feeling. And I start eating more fish and beef naturally. I don't really like eating sashimi anymore since Ive got really sick one time from salmon (I ate too much in one setting). But now it just seems my body really likes the fatty fishes like mackerel. And I've been eating a lot of it lately.
I had times where I ate 17 yolks in one session. Because they were getting old and I couldn't throw them away. I felt really sick for 3 hours but had no other troubles with them. It's only the sick in stomache feeling.
If i workout I can eat 10 - 15 egg yolks on one day and also eat beef or fish without any problems.
So I would say your body warns you that you don't need so much yolks. You already have enough of the fat soluble vitamins. And the only thing you need is good proteins. That's why I start eating more beef and fish I guess.
So do what feels right and if 6 give you a sick feeling try to do 4 or 5 and try some fish or beef maybe.
I also quit egg yolks for a couple of days once every few weeks. Then if I reintroduce them in the diet my body really welcomes them.

Re: My current diet
I suspect it may be best to limit dietary cholesterol to around 1000mg/day (this is about 5 egg yolks plus beef, fish, etc), could be that the body has harder time using more.
Have any of you guys had a blood test recently btw? I did one in the summer and cholesterol levels in the blood were pretty close to the upper limit of what's considered 'normal'. I'm not really concerned but I'm curious whether it's similar for others on the wai diet.

Re: My current diet
Yes I once thought going yolks all the way. But now I'm more into different kind of animal products.
And yes, I think cholesterol is really healthy and can never do harm when it isn't oxidized. But enough is enough
What's the most important part is that you listen to your body. RRM, have you also had these experiences? Do you eat a lot of yolks? More than in the beginning? And when you workout?

Re: My current diet
What I've read is that blood cholesterol levels on their own don't indicate bad cholesterol, but in conjunction with high triglycerides they do. I'm not sure if this is correct, as it's based off memory and not understanding, but I think high LDL plus high triglycerides means that you have small-form cholesterol which can do nasty things, like clog arteries. Better to verify that before believing it though, as I don't actually know what I'm talking about.
I find my body loves when I eat fish and beef, but the issue is that beef is irradiated, and fish is really expensive, plus I would lose my feel-goodness of having a really ethical diet, and not hurting animals. Oh well.

Re: My current diet
How much you need is individually different, as our capcity to produce and break down cholesterol is individually different.dime wrote:I suspect it may be best to limit dietary cholesterol to around 1000mg/day
When you feel like eating only 1 egg yolk a day, do so.
When you feel like eating 12 egg yolks a day, do so.
Do what feels best for your body.
I havent.Have any of you guys had a blood test recently btw?
That doesnt mean anything, and on itself is doesnt indicate anything bad.I did one in the summer and cholesterol levels in the blood were pretty close to the upper limit of what's considered 'normal'.
If you are concerned, you might get a full test that includes all the factors involved.
My body doesnt like eating a lot of egg yolks.overkees wrote:RRM, have you also had these experiences? Do you eat a lot of yolks? More than in the beginning? And when you workout?
No more than 3 a day.
But as i said, its individually very different.
Re: My current diet
Hey guys
Right now I have a cold, which has been bothering me for a out a week. I've very rarely stayed sick for very long while on this diet, but I've also made a big switch from drinking primarily juice, to drinking primarily sugar water, while eating the same amount of oranges I would have previously drank. Now I've done a lot of searching, and everything about sugar suppressing your immune system seems bogus to me. So basically I just want to make sure I'm on track
sugar water
4 oranges
1-4 avocados
1-2 tomatoes
6 eggyolk
I've been refusing any medicines, although I've taken a couple cough drops when I have to teach; I don't feel like they do anything btw.
I'm about to take a hot shower, and I know I should get lots of rest, but I haven't had time, which may be the sole reason my sickness persists. So basically it would just be nice for someone to ensure me I'm on the right track/doing everything I can. I'm thinking about taking a decongestant tomorrow, as I have to teach a grade 4 class all day.

Re: My current diet
Your diet is extremely low on vitamins, no wonder you got sick. What are your reasons for eating so few fruits?
Eat more fruit, fill it in in the nutrient calculator on the site, you'll see you have enormous shortcomings.

Re: My current diet
Yes, the bulk of your energy is supplied by sugar water, which is way too much, indeed.
And of course, you need a lot of sleep to recover...

Re: My current diet
Well, I have been taking a multi-vitamin. I'm trying to save money. If I ate twice as much fruit, would that be enough?
The multi-vitamineral give 100% DV for most nutrients, I cut them into quarters or thirds, and eat about half of one to two thirds of one per day, so should be getting about half to 2/3rds my DV of micronutrients from that, right? I guess our bodies don't absorb it as readily in the pill format, but is there a way of knowing how much less is absorbed? Should I maybe get double DV from the vitamin, because I'll only absorb a quarter, for example?
Anyway, getting sick is by far not worth the savings. The time it could cost me in work would easily pay for more fruits.
Would this diet work if I add 1-2 bananas, and maybe do 8 oranges instead of 4?

Re: My current diet
Looking at the nutrient calculator (easy version, do I need to use the advanced?), the only things I'm deficient (less than half the RDA) are
Vitamin D................................147.40IU ........400.00IU
Vitamin K.................................19.68mcg ........70.00mcg
Zinc, Zn...................................5.83mg .........15.00mg
Iodide, I..................................1.30mcg .......150.00mcg
Vitamin D we synthesize from cholesterol, right?
Iodide and Zink are both in my multi, so the only thing I'd be lacking is vitamin K, right?

Re: My current diet
No, vitamin d synthesis isn't so easy.
You need ultraviolet light for the stimulation of vitamin d. But vitamin D is made out of cholesterol, so there are 2 factors at work.
I would recommend adding some more variation. Bananas are a great add on. And you could try to eat the vitamin pill with your meals and everytime a tiny bit instead of one big unit. They are also not absorbed really well, so I would take one whole pill.
Also try to eventually eat some real fat fish. It doesn't needs to be much but something like mackerel or herring every week is a great add on for vitamin d. There's plenty of mackerel in the sea (and its cheap).
You could also try a tanning saloon for ultraviolet? Best is to be more outside. Taking a walk every morning?
What you didn't think about was all the other stuff that's in fruit. It's also about phytonutrients and antioxidants. Those you can't get from pills. If that was possible, there would be alot of people that would drink sugar water with lemon juice and olive oil and take vitamin pills.
So yeah, definetely eat more fruit!
